- Plus, Motorsport, crane operators, forklift truck and airside permits.
If you are unsure which medical you require, our team can help guide you.
Why you may need a driver medical
Certain driving licences and permits require medical certification to ensure drivers meet the health and vision standards needed for safe operation of vehicles.
These medicals are often required for:
- Commercial and professional driving licences
- Taxi licensing
- Specialist driving permits (such as airside or motorsport)
- Licence renewal at certain ages
- Pre-employment requirements for driving roles
The examination includes a basic health assessment and vision test to ensure you meet the required licensing standards.
What the medical includes
Your appointment includes a clinical examination completed by a qualified doctor. The standard driver medical includes:
- Medical history review
- Blood pressure check
- General health assessment
- Basic eye test required for licensing standards
Eye tests are conducted using a Snellen chart designed to DVA and DVLA standards, ensuring your examination meets the requirements for:
- DLM1 and DLM1 Taxi forms in Northern Ireland
- D4 forms used in England, Scotland and Wales
If an ECG is required (for example for some motorsport licences), this can be provided for an additional fee.
What to bring to your appointment
Please ensure you bring:
- Photo ID (driving licence or passport)
- The medical form you need completed
- Glasses or contact lenses if worn
- Contact lens equipment (your eyes must be tested with and without lenses)
- Your most recent optical prescription
- A list of any prescription medications
- Details of any significant medical conditions including supporting documentation such as GP printouts or hospital letters
