Bringing Urgent Care Closer to Home in Northern Ireland

When we opened our first Emerald Urgent Care clinic in Belfast earlier this year, we wanted to make high-quality, same-day care easy to access, without the long waits that have become the norm in busy GP surgeries and hospitals.

The response has been incredible. Patient numbers have grown steadily, and our Belfast team now has capacity to care for up to 90 patients a day, seven days a week. The level of demand has shown just how much people value timely, professional healthcare close to home.

Because of that, we’re delighted to announce the opening of our second clinic, in Enniskillen this December, followed by new clinics in Londonderry/Derry and Coleraine, due to open in the first half of 2026.

It’s the next step in our mission to make urgent care accessible across Northern Ireland.

At Emerald Urgent Care, our focus has always been clear — to bridge the gap between GP surgeries and emergency departments. Many patients need prompt treatment for illnesses or injuries that don’t require A&E, and we’re here to fill that space with experienced clinicians, modern facilities, and compassionate care.

Our new clinics will follow the same successful model as Belfast:

  • Same-day appointments — book online or walk in.
  • Extended opening hours, seven days a week.
  • Access to Paramedic Practitioners, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and GPs.

As well as the new locations announcement, we’ve also launched our Virtual Appointments service, so anyone in Northern Ireland can speak directly to a clinician by phone or video call. After your consultation, we can send prescriptions straight to your local pharmacy — all without leaving home.

As our Managing Director Jonny Davies explains:

“The response to our Belfast clinic has been incredible. We’ve seen a significant rise in footfall from patients looking for timely, professional care without the long waits that are now common in A&E. This demand has given us the confidence and determination to expand our services across Northern Ireland. Our goal is to make high-quality urgent care accessible to as many people aspossible, and this expansion is a vital step in achieving that.”

Sharon Giddings, our Programme Director, adds:

“Our expansion is about more than opening new clinics, it’s about reaching into every community across Northern Ireland and ensuring people have access to quality urgent care when and where they need it. We’re proud to be establishing a network of Independent Urgent Treatment Centres that complement GP and hospital services, helping to ease the pressure on the wider healthcare system while putting patients first.”

Stuart Thornhill, our co-founder and director at Emerald Healthcare Group, shares the same vision:

“From the outset, Emerald Urgent Care was built on a simple principle, fast access to the right care, delivered by experienced healthcare professionals. The expansion of our clinics reflects a proven demand for this model and our continued commitment to easing pressure on the public healthcare system while putting patients first. Today’s news is an additional four locations, but this is just the start of the journey."
